The Brain - What we can learn - Trauma (Andrew Wilkinson)
- Take in what they’re going through into our selves
- Brain stem: Breaks every 45 -60 mins - run, walk, simple figure 8 etc. Put these on the timetables.
- Cerebellum: dancing, yoga, martial arts, posture, balance, etc eating healthy foods drinking water. When can these opportunites be?
- Limbic system: feelings and emotions
- Amygdala: fear - emotional storage, sensitive and reactive.
- Hippocampus: memory. Impacted by injuries and stress.
There should be the ability to be vulnerable, tap out and swap, ensure we support each other.
- Limbic system: yoga, deep breathing.
- Cerebral cortex: thinking, creative. If all the rest are working then this functions. Higher level thinking.
Memory games, wordsearches, puzzles, brain training, exercise, reading books.
We want our kids to leave in a better way than how they arrived.
